Geography, Countries and Trade
Countries
Info
This tool is not to be understood as an endorsement of any political opinion on borders or country names. We use data from different sources and to harmonize names and borders, we use ISO3 country codes and borders from the EU "Geographic Information System of the COmmission" to aggregate gridded data.
Country geographical extends in form of shapefiles are used to aggregate results for each country, and to be able to further aggregate to "world crop production", "EU crop production" and "EU crop consumption". For the later, we use trade data to determine what part of the EU consumption originates from which country.
Warning
Malta is commented in the EU country list, and thus not included in the statistics, due to issues of missing data in some datasets.
Trade
We use trade data from Eurostat (dataset_code = "ds-018995") for all crops.
Warning
There is no trade data available for sugar cane. As the EU domestic production of sugar cane is marginal, we simply used the world average production data for the sourcing of the EU consumption.
